The Infant Community

Designed for children from 3 months to 18 months

Adult to child ratio - 1:3

Montessori has always believed that the type and quality of early interactions with Infants and Toddlers has a long lasting effect on a child’s future development. Our goal is to create a responsive environment; one that answers the needs of the young child on all levels whether it be through the support of curiosity and exploration, development of language skills, or establishing a strong secure attachment with his or her caregiver. This is a time when children discover their independence, begin to organize their world, and learn problem solving techniques.

The Directress, or teacher facilitates some activities while also placing other age appropriate lessons on open shelves around the classroom, giving the children freedom of choice and the ability to make decisions. Sensory experiences such as crawling or walking across different surfaces and tactile exploring of a basket filled with a variety of items not only engage a child, but also assist in increasing the child’s cognitive function. Finally, the Infant Community is an environment that spontaneously encourages social development, and as the children learn about their relationships with their classmates, the Montessori Directress acts as a role model and reiterates respect and care for others.

The Infant room is open from 7:30am-6:00pm, five days a week.
